1. In magnesium salt production, MgO magnesium oxide is used as a raw material to react with acid.


2. In refractory, MgO magnesium oxide is used as a refractory agent in crucibles.


3. In energy plants, MgO magnesium oxide is used to remove sulfur trioxide, which is harmful to plants and the environment. Spaying of the fine and reactive magnesium oxide powder at the preheaters (LUVO) neutralizes SO3 according to reaction and prevents the formation of sulfuric acid according to reaction, thus avoiding the destructive consequences for both the installation and the environment.


4. In the rubber and plastic industry, magnesium oxide powder industry grade is used as a filler, acid acceptor, anti-scorch ingredient, and curing acid.


5. In the hydrometallurgy industry, relative purity, closely controlled activity, and particle size can be used to precipitate the hydroxides of metals such as nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), or uranium (U) from acid leachate solutions of their respective ores. MgO must be able to simultaneously achieve: (a) acceptable metal recovery performance; (b) the highest possible percentage of metal in the precipitate; (c) the minimum MgO/metal ratio; (d) a closely monitored pH range; and (d) low precipitate concentrations of undesirable ore-originating metals.


6. Magnesium oxide powder industry grade is an important component in friction material formulations, typically added to adjust the friction coefficient to desirable values in brake pads and brake linings. Moreover, its intermediate hardness imparts sufficiently low wear on metal while adequately conducting heat from the friction contact surfaces. MgO can also increase the thermal stability of the phenolic resin, the fade resistance of the friction material, and suppress low-frequency noise during breaking. Finally, due to its high refractoriness, it can help impart high life and maintain frictional grip in demanding high-breaking-temperature friction applications.
